This, That and the Other | Editorial

Hey Neighbors!

Even though there is a small chance of snow this weekend, ugh, our annual Trails and Trilliums Festival is the BIG ‘welcome to Spring on the mountain’ event this Saturday 9:30 am-3:30pm and Sunday 10 am-2pm at DuBose Conference Center in Monteagle. Although the date has passed to register for one of their 25 guided hikes, naturalist presentations, workshops, and author talks, there will still be plenty to see and do. All weekend you can shop for native plants to add to your landscaping, purchase worm castings for your garden, and visit numerous garden and outdoor-themed vendors / crafters and food trucks. There will also be music too. One of the coolest components of this fun weekend is the family-focused activities, like the hands-on wildlife program, marshmallows and marsupials at the fire circle, owl-ology learning, explore the firefly fairy village, nature night family campfire and the Davy Crockett program. All of the family activities are free for both the kids and the parents. This wonderful event is put on every year by the Friends of the South Cumberland, with all proceeds benefiting our state park.

Congratulations to the Cumberland Heights Thrift Store grand re-opening this past Tuesday. They will now be open 9 am-2pm every Tuesday. The store is located on old Hwy 56 across from GRACE and SDA church, and down the street from Mountain TOP. This is a non-profit thrift store benefiting the residents of Grundy.

Big local news, HunterGirl made it to the Top 24 on American Idol, and The Caverns made it to the Final Round of Garden & Gun magazine’s 11th annual ‘Favorite Southern Music Venue’. As of this writing, they were neck and neck with Asheville’s iconic music venue, The Orange Peel. Bring home the win!

Lastly, don’t forget to sign-up for this year’s Mountain Goat Trail Run on April 16!

Onward. #tnsouthcumberland
